Commissioner Lesley Briones is proud to announce the 32 projects selected for partnership as part of the 2023 Call 4 Projects: Places 4 People initiative!

This $170 million investment, including $88 million from Precinct 4, is set to bring transformative improvements to communities across Harris County Precinct 4.

Alief Trail

Partner: Houston Parks Board 

Precinct 4 Cost: $1.48 M

Partner Cost $370K

Type of project: Design of a Hike & Bike Trail
Design of a 10-foot-wide shared-use trail that would be built primarily within the CenterPoint easement. The trail would run approximately 4 miles from Brays Bayou Greenway south to the existing Keegans Bayou Trail.  Once complete, the Alief Trail will be within a 10-minute/half-mile walk of an estimated 25,000 people and more than 7,000 households.

Anderson Park

Partner: St. George Place Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 1)

Type of project: Construction & Maintenance: Park
Transform an underutilized 7.1-acre community park into a destination greenspace.

Bissonnet Sidewalk Improvements

Partner: International Management District 
Type of project: Final design and construction of sidewalks

The installation of six-foot sidewalks where none currently exist, upgrading existing sidewalks to six feet, and implementing other pedestrian improvements.

Braeburn Glen Park

Partner: Houston Parks Board 
Type of project: Park  
Improved and increased park lighting, upgraded volleyball courts, a renovated playground with added shade, an expanded concrete walking trail, a new picnic area, new and additional site furnishings, and a dry-bottom detention basin.  

Brays Bayou Greenway

Partner: Houston Parks Board
Precinct 4 Cost: $3.8 M
Partner Cost: $2.8 M
Type of project: Construction of Hike & Bike Trail
The $6.6 million project will enhance trail connectivity and safety along Brays Bayou in Meyerland. The initiative includes 4.4 miles of new or improved trails, seven pedestrian and bicycle underpasses, and a memorial plaza honoring Captain Gary L. Herod, a Texas National Guard pilot who sacrificed his life in 1961 to save others.

Brays Bayou Greenway - IH-59 and Beltway 8

Partner: Houston Parks Board 

Precinct 4 Cost: $2.55 M

Partner Cost: $12.275 M

Type of project: Hike & Bike Trail
This project will include almost two miles of trails including undercrossings at Highways 59 and Beltway 8, and a pedestrian bridge at 59.

Briarbend Park

Partner: Houston Parks Board 
Type of project: Park construction 
The improvements include lighting the entire park, refurbishing the gazebo, upgrading the playground and improving its drainage, repairing the walking loop, and new site furniture.

Buffalo Bayou Greenway

Partner: Houston Parks Board 

Precinct 4 Cost: $13.5 M

New trail connecting Buffalo Bayou Park with Memorial Park.

Cane Island Branch Drainage

Partner: Brookshire-Katy Drainage District 
Type of project: Drainage study
Design for improvements to the Cane Island Branch of Buffalo Bayou to mitigate flood hazard conditions for this growing area within Precinct 4.  

Chimney Rock Reconstruction

Partner: St. George Place Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 1)  

Type of project: Road construction
Roadway replacement for .79 mile segment of Chimney Rock between Westheimer and 59.

Greenbelt Park and Trail

Partner: Nottingham Country MUD
Type of project: Design and construction of a Hike & Bike Trail 
Trail connections to Greenbelt Park along South Fry, Westgreen and Highland Knolls. 

Kieth Harrow

Partner: Harris County MUD #167

Precinct 4 Cost: $605,348

Type of project: Final design and construction of a sidewalk
Construction of a new sidewalk that will connect Westfield Village Drive to Sheridan Elementary School.

METRO Bus Shelters

This partnership involves the design and construction of 200 bus shelters and trash receptacles at bus stops throughout the southeastern quadrant of Precinct 4.

Mayde Creek Sidewalk Network

Partner: Emergency Services District 47, Harris County MUD 238, West Park Utility District
Type of project: Sidewalk
1.6 miles of new sidewalks and sidepaths providing safe access to and from neighborhoods, schools, parks, and trails around the Mayde Creek school complex.

McClendon Park

Partner: Harris County MUD No. 120
Type of project: Park design
Development of public green space adjoining McClendon Park (and possible future community center/parking lot). Also improve pedestrian access to the park and drainage.

Meadowglen Lane

Partner: Westchase District

Type of project: Final design and construction of a road
Reconstruction of a 1.3-mile segment of Meadowglen, including drainage, safety, and mobility improvements.

Memorial MUD Pedestrian Bridge

Partner: Memorial MUD 
Type of project: Design and construction of a Hike & Bike Trail 
This partnership involves design and construction of a pedestrian bridge and recreational trails within the Willow Fork Drainage District.

Mission Bend Area Park

Partner: Chelford One MUD 
Precinct 4 Cost: $404,914 
Partner Cost: $101,230  
Type of project: Park  
To facilitate connectivity and accessibility, this project proposes adding sidewalks to the west side of Addicks Clodine Rd and connecting to the existing sidewalk. This trail will serve as a recreational area and provide a safer alternative for pedestrians who wish to avoid walking along the road.

Park Row - North Dairy Ashford Connections

Type of project: Design and construction
Design and construction of sidewalks and sidepaths, including drainage and safety improvements, within the Energy Corridor.

Pitts Road Intersections

Type of project: Design and construction of an intersection 
Intersection improvements on Pitts Road, from Clay to Beckendorf.  

SPARK Park at Miller Intermediate School

Partner: SPARK School Park Program 
Type of Project: Design and construction of a park  
This partnership will call for the design and construction of playgrounds and trails at Miller Intermediate and Holmquist Elementary Schools.

Seamist Drive

Partner: City Park Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 12)  
Type of project: Final design and construction of drainage
The reconstruction of Seamist Drive aims to improve drainage and reduce flooding in the area.

Sharpstown Trail

Partner: Southwest Houston Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 20)

Precinct 4 Cost: $1.5 M

Type of project: Design and construction of a Hike & Bike Trail

Construction of Phase 1 & 2 of the Sharpstown Trail, a trail connecting Beechnut to the Brays Bayou Greenway.

South Fry Undercrossing

1.9 miles of new 10' wide trail connecting Mason and George Bush Park. Includes an undercrossing at South Fry.

Tanglewilde Park

Type of project: Park
Improvements to the park including upgrades to the picnic pavilion, playground, and walking loop.

Timbergrove Street Drainage Improvements

Partner: City Park Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 12) 

Precinct 4 Cost: $600,821

Improve drainage along 10 road segments to protect the neighborhood from flooding. (Sherwood, Helberg, West 12th, Seamist, Hurst, Toledo, Letein, Eureka, Maxroy, and Dean.)

Installation of sidewalks on West Little York, Addicks-Satsuma, Hamstead Park, and Huffmeister.

West Side Greenbelt Drainage

Type: of project: Drainage maintenance
Improve drainage along the Mission Bend Greenbelt Trail system, to be completed before the West Side Greenbelt Improvements project.

Westchase Promenade

This project will establish a 35-foot-wide shared-use corridor in a fully developed area that currently lacks green spaces or community gathering areas.
