Commissioner Lesley Briones Hosts Ceremonial Tree Planting to Celebrate ForUsTree Project to Combat Extreme Heat and Flooding

30 Apr, 26

Commissioner Lesley Briones and the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) hosted a ceremonial tree planting to celebrate the planting of 1,000 trees through the ForUsTree project on Wednesday, April 29, at Arthur Storey Park.

Over the next six months, the trees will be planted across Alief and Spring Branch in Arthur Storey, Pitner, Reginald Moore, and Freed Parks. Alief and Spring Branch experience extreme heat, running 14 to 17 degrees hotter in the summer than other Precinct 4 communities. These new trees can lower temperatures, making it safer and more enjoyable in our parks and on our trails over the summer.

This project, funded by a USDA grant, will advance public safety and improve community health by providing cooler temperatures, retaining nearly 1 million gallons of rainwater, and removing 4.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Commissioner Lesley Briones is committed to building a safer Harris County.
