Harris County, TX — Commissioners Court adopted a $2.67 billion budget that addresses Harris County’s growing needs with important investments in infrastructure, courts and law enforcement, public health, stable housing, and government operations.
Commissioner Briones helped secure budget funding for critical initiatives including:
- $20 million investment for Public Improvement Contingency (PIC) fund to support disaster recovery and debris clean-up efforts
- $50 million investment for Vision Zero Action Plan to redesign Harris County roads to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries
- $8.4 million investment for three additional District Criminal Courts to continue reducing case backlog, improve efficiency, and enhance quality of justice
- $1 million investment for Jail Based Competency Restoration Program to streamline jail mental health services and help further reduce backlog related to competency evaluations
- $1.5 million investment for Domestic Violence Assistance Fund to support domestic violence survivors and their families
- $1.4 million investment for Maternal & Child Health Program to reduce mortality risks and empower expectant mothers
- $1.5 million investment for tax exemptions toward affordable housing developments
“In the aftermath of multiple disasters, it is vital that we plan responsibly. We are proactively investing in our community to ensure the necessary infrastructure, public safety, and critical programs to support Harris County families,” said Commissioner Briones.
