After deep community engagement and strong partnerships, construction is underway on the new Burnett Bayland Park. Over the next few years, Harris County Precinct 4 will transform the site into a signature regional destination with new and upgraded amenities for children, families, athletes, and nature lovers. This reinvention will create a welcoming space that will serve Gulfton and the broader community for generations.

The Phase 1 area will be closed during the first phase of the transformation.

We know these fields are central to the community. During the demolition plan, three of the six soccer fields will be decommissioned. To ensure uninterrupted community play and maintain full youth access to soccer fields during the implementation of the Burnett Bayland Park Master Plan, we will build a temporary youth   soccer field (195 ft x135 ft) on the current baseball field. (map) The surface will be regraded, treated, and leveled for soccer play.
Temporary Soccer Field Completion: June 2025

The baseball field will not be accessible. It will be prepped for use as an interim soccer field. We will remove the fencing and dugout from the existing baseball field and move them to another Precinct 4 park and/or a newly acquired new park for reinstallation.

The splash pad will be closed during Phase 1.

Visitors will continue to have access to the current restrooms and water fountains.

The playground will be relocated to the area north of the park’s outdoor restroom building. During that time, it may not be available for 4-6 weeks. Relocation is scheduled for mid-April 2025.

The parking lot area north of the park will remain open, and there will be no interruptions during Phase 1 of construction.

The Community Garden consists of eight raised garden beds and two pollinator-friendly beds which are communal/shared.  The Community Garden is surrounded by a wrought iron fence.

We will adjust the fence line, and we will relocate three of the existing community garden beds within the new fence line.

The timeline for relocation is 1-2 weeks.

The trails in the north and middle of the park will remain open and will be unaffected by the phase 1 transformation.

There will be no changes to the courthouse annex.
