Over the last three years, our team has been hard at work engaging with the community and local stakeholders, resulting in over 1,000 surveys and over 21,000 data points. We have translated the community's vision into action, and construction is underway to transform Burnett Bayland Park into Gulfton's oasis for nature, play, multiculturalism, and economic opportunity. Over the next few years, Harris County Precinct 4 will undertake this reinvention through a three-phased approach—ultimately resulting in a space that will serve both Gulfton and the broader community for generations to come.

The Phase 1 area consisting of park facilities located at Chimney Rock and Elm Street to Alder Drive will be closed during construction to ensure the safety of park goers.

To ensure the safety of all visitors, the skatepark will be closed during the full duration of the Phase 1 transformation. Both the skatepark and the surrounding area will receive significant upgrades and will reopen when Phase 1 is complete.

To minimize disruption and ensure uninterrupted community play and full access to the soccer fields during the Park transformation, we have recently opened temporary soccer fields (195 ft x 135 ft) at the site of the former baseball fields. The surface for the temporary soccer fields has been regraded, treated, and leveled specifically for soccer play. A new 11v11 field will open when Phase 1 is complete.

The baseball fields were closed in the Fall of 2025 to accommodate for construction of the park plan.

The splash pad will be closed during Phase 1. A new one will be installed as part of Phase 3.

Visitors will continue to have access to the current restrooms and water fountains.

The playground will remain accessible during each phase of the park project. The location of the park within the grounds of Burnett-Bayland however will change to accommodate the ongoing construction.

The parking lot area north of the park will remain open, and there will be no interruptions during Phase 1 of construction.

The community gardens remain open within Burnett Bayland but their location has changed to accommodate for the ongoing construction. Five additional gardening spaces will be included in Phase 1.

The trails in the north and middle of the park will remain open and will be unaffected by the Phase 1 transformation. 

There will be no changes to the courthouse annex. 

The community center will not be impacted during Phase 1 of the transformation.
