Spend your summer at Precinct 4 at our hundreds of events, programs, and activities

Kids are nearly on summer break, and parents and guardians across Precinct 4 are looking for fun, safe, and engaging activities to keep children busy. Whether it’s visiting Mary Jo Peckham Aquatic and Fitness Center for a swim, fishing at John Paul Landing’s lake, or enjoying the cool indoors while crafting and watching a movie, Precinct 4 has something for everyone this summer.

Here are 11 family-friendly programs to check out starting in June:

Kids Cafe Summer Meals

  • All community centers (Not including nature centers or Mary Jo Peckham Aquatic Fitness Center)

  • Weekdays, June 2 – August 1 | Noon – 1 p.m.

Enjoy nutritious meals for children ages 18 and younger, thanks to Harris County Precinct 4 partner, the Houston Food Bank. Free meals are available all summer long so kids can stay healthy and strong while school is out.

Summer Chalk the Courtyard

  • Burnett Bayland Community Center

  • Tuesday, June 3 – Monday, August 4

Join the Precinct 4 team and let your creativity run wild. Bring a friend and create chalk art in our courtyard. Chalk will be provided.

Summer Adventure Seekers Story Hour

  • Hockley Community Center

  • Tuesday, June 3 | 10 – 11 a.m.

Make new friends and spark your imagination at Adventure Seekers Story Hour hosted by the Hockley team. This fun-filled story hour is designed for elementary-aged children with a thirst for adventure.

It's Summer Movie Time

  • Bayland Community Center

  • Wednesday, June 4 | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Bring you family and friends to enjoy free popcorn and lemonade at our monthly movie night. Registration is required.

Summer: Free Fishing Day

  • John Paul Landing Environmental Education Center

  • Saturday, June 7 | 9 a.m. – Noon

Celebrate Texas Parks and Wildlife Division's Free Fishing Day by borrowing Precinct 4’s fishing gear or bringing your own to the park. No fishing license is required. Equipment is available on a first come first serve basis.

Summer Night Out: Escape Room

  • Kleb Woods Nature Center

  • Friday, June 13 | Various sessions from 5 – 8 p.m.

Discover clues, solve puzzles, and answer riddles to resolve an ecological crisis. This version of an escape room experience will last 30 minutes and is led by a Precinct 4 Naturalist. This is best suited for participants in third grade or higher.

Summer Kids’ Water Safety

  • Mary Jo Peckham Aquatic & Fitness Center

  • Friday, June 13 | 1 – 2 p.m.

Peckham’s certified staff will present Longfellow’s Whale Tales, a fun and engaging American Red Cross Program that teaches kids how to stay safe in and around the water.

Summer Fest: Picnic Week

  • Tracy Gee Community Center

  • Tuesday, June 24 – Friday, June 27 | 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Join us every Tuesday evening for crafts, board games, a family movie, and more fun picnic-themed activities. Please bring a snack to share. Registration is required.

Summer Jewelry Making

  • Radack Community Center

  • Thursday, June 26 | 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Make a headband, bracelet, or necklace alongside the Radack team. All materials will be provided.

Summer Field Day

  • Kleb Woods Nature Center

  • Friday, June 27 | 11 a.m. – Noon

Explore the outdoors through interactive games, nature challenges, hands-on activities, and guided nature walks. A Precinct 4 Naturalist will guide you through a fun-filled field day that blends adventure and learning through carefully crafted activities.

Sunshine & Smiles: A Summer Celebration

  • Freed Community Center

  • Saturday, June 28 | Noon – 2 p.m.

Kick off summer with a fun day of outdoor games, giant tic-tac-toe, colorful crafts, jump rope and hula-hoop challenges, DIY painted sunglasses, and a summer tattoo station.
