Commissioner Lesley Briones, in partnership with Feed theFridge, is proud to announce the launch of a new community fridge at Freed Community Center.
Feed the Fridge, a national nonprofit focused on tackling food insecurity, stocks community fridges with fresh, nutritious meals prepared by local restaurants.
Ayla Patel, a high school student and Spring Branch resident, raised $13,000 to bring the program to Houston and reached out to Precinct 4 to host the community fridge at Freed.
Nearly 40% of Harris County households are food insecure. In Spring Branch, there are over 3,200 households with children who receive SNAP benefits.
Residents interested in free meals must sign up in person at Freed Community Center.
Restaurants interested in partnering with the program may contact Ayla Patel at [email protected] or 281-652-7238 for more information.
