Students in the Precinct 4 area will return to school across Harris County on August 12. The lead-up to the first day can be busy for families, often filled with errands, supply lists, and appointments. To help ease the transition, Precinct 4 is assisting families in their preparation.
From school supplies and resources to safety demonstrations and family-friendly activities, these nine events are designed to support children of all ages and set up students for a strong start to the school year.
Back-to-School Resource Fair
- Saturday, August 2 | 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Stop by for school readiness resources, free backpacks, school supplies, and on-site immunizations and vision screenings. High school students are also encouraged to attend and learn more about preparing.
Budget Town Hall, Backpacks, & Ice Cream
- Monday, August 4 | 4:30 – 7 p.m.
Hear from Commissioner Lesley Briones and share your thoughts on how funds are invested in your neighborhood. Enjoy hands-on budgeting activities, a back-to-school backpack giveaway sponsored by Texas Children’s Health Plan, ice cream, crafts, and games.
School Immunizations and Stroke Prevention

Harris County Public Health (HCPH) will be on site with free vaccinations for children and adults. Call HCPH at 832-927-7350 to learn more.
Back-to-School Bike, Walk, Stay Safe
- Wednesday, August 6 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Learn how to safely walk and bike to school through interactive demonstrations led by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Children can enjoy ice cream, giveaways, crafts, and have access to free immunizations.
Back-to-School Bingo Bash

- Thursday, August 7 | 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Celebrate the end of a fantastic summer season with giant lawn games, board games, crafts, and refreshments.
Back-to-School Festival & Milkshake Roadshow Finale
- Burnett Bayland Community Center
- Saturday, August 9 | 9 – 11 a.m.
Take advantage of on-site sports physicals for children. Families can also enjoy carnival games, Gulfton mural voting, up-close animal encounters featuring Milkshake the Snake and his friends, and pictures with Precinct 4’s decorated FIFA soccer ball, donated by Chevron.
Be Cool, Stay Healthy: School Immunizations
- Friday, August 15 | Noon – 5 p.m.
Eligible children can prepare for back-to-school with free vaccines provided by Harris County Public Health. See the link for more details.
School Immunization Pop-up with Christus Health
- Tuesday, August 19 | 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Eligible children aged 2 months to 18 years can receive free back-to-school vaccines at Radack, in partnership with Christus Health. See the link for more details.
Back-to-School 3D Keychain Creations
- Thursday, August 21 | 5 – 6 p.m.
Blend STEAM with creativity as you make a personalized 3D-printed pencil, ruler, or notebook keychain at this back-to-school workshop.
