School is back in session, but the learning shouldn’t stop when the last bell rings. Commissioner Lesley Briones and Precinct 4 are proud to offer families a lineup of fun, free, and enriching afterschool activities to keep kids engaged, inspired, and thriving. From arts and crafts to science experiments and storytime in the park, these programs give parents peace of mind and students a safe space to explore, create, and connect.

Film Fun Night

  • Burnett Bayland Community Center

  • Wednesday, September 3 | 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Take a break from the usual routine and watch a family-friendly film.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Crafts & Movie

  • Tracy Gee Community Center

  • Thursday, September 4 | 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a movie and crafts, such as papel picados, paper sombrero hats, piñatas. Light refreshments will be provided.

Hats off to Iguanas

  • Burnett Bayland Community Center

  • Monday, September 8 | 5 6 p.m.

Cut, color, and assemble a colorful iguana hat while practicing fine motor skills. This craft is for children in Pre-K through 3rd grade.

Storytime in the Park

  • Mary Jo Peckham Aquatic Fitness Center

  • Tuesday, September 9 | 6 – 7 p.m.

Gather at the gazebo for a family-friendly story time experience. Enjoy a complimentary snack while you listen to a story read by a Harris County Public Librarian.

Piggy Launch Party

  • Burnett Bayland Community Center

  • Tuesday, September 9 | 5 6 p.m.

Build your own piggy-themed catapult and parachute. Design, launch, and watch your piggy take flight with this STEAM-inspired activity.

Paint-a-Pot: Fall Clay Pot Painting

  • Freed Community Center

  • Thursday, September 11 | 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Decorate a fall-themed clay pot to get ready for the changing season. All materials are free and provided.

Plant & Grow: Kids’ Seed Starter Workshop

Celebrate fall by planting seeds in a take-home pot. All materials are free and provided.

UnFURgettable Story Hour

Enjoy a children’s book reading about a service puppy in training. Listen and color along with related coloring pages.

Saturn, the Most Beautiful Planet in the Sky

  • Tracy Gee Community Center

  • Thursday, September 25 | 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Take a closer look at our planets. Learn about Saturn’s rings and how to find it in the sky with the Houston Astronomical Society.

Keep Calm and Craft an Alpaca

  • Burnett Bayland Community Center

  • Friday, September 26 | 5 – 6:00 p.m.

Celebrate Alpaca Day by creating a fluffy, colorful, alpaca-inspired craft. Bring your imagination; supplies are provided.
