For nearly 250 years, members of our Armed Forces have laid down their lives in service of the United States of America, protecting our nation and fighting for the idea that all people are created equal.
This Memorial Day, we honor the courageous men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and for the democratic ideals we hold so dear. We know that for many, especially our Gold Star Families, this day carries an extra weight — today and every day, we extend our profound gratitude to those service members we have lost. We also renew our commitment to supporting their families and loved ones.
We especially honor the thousands of Harris County residents and Americans since World War I who have sacrificed their lives safeguarding our freedoms. This culture of service runs deep in our state; Texas has the largest veteran population in the U.S., and Harris County is home to the largest veteran population in Texas.
While we can never fully repay the debt we owe to our fallen service men and women, we remain dedicated to investing in resources for our veterans to help them lead fulfilling lives. At Precinct 4, I am proud to have many veterans serving alongside me as we advance opportunity and justice for the people of Harris County.
To the service members we have lost, to those who are still serving, and to our veterans and their families, we thank you for your unwavering commitment to our County and our country. We are always here to support you.
