Commissioner Lesley Briones surprised Emma Cardenas, the first winner of Harris County Precinct 4’s bus design contest, “From Palette to Pavement: Student Art on Precinct 4 Buses!”
Cardenas, a Bridgeland High School student, saw her artwork on the bus for the very first time on Thursday, March 7.
Commissioner Briones is calling on budding artists from Alief ISD, Cypress Fairbanks ISD, Houston ISD, Katy ISD, Spring Branch ISD, Waller ISD, and Tomball ISD to help beautify the Harris County Precinct 4 bus fleet with artwork that reflects the cultural perspectives and experiences of our community!
Students are asked to submit artwork following the theme: “The History of and Unity in Harris County.” They are encouraged to think about the diversity of cultures that make up our unique region, historical milestones/landmarks, bayous and parks, or leaders and changemakers that helped shape our community.
The Precinct 4 bus fleet serves our community members, most notably our senior community. It offers free day trips to recreational and educational activities. During disasters, the buses also provide transportation for emergency supplies and residents in need.
The contest is ongoing, and winners from each district will be selected and announced on a rolling basis. Student art should be submitted here: BIT.LY/BUSCONTEST2023.
